Fox and Lion Bread Company, Xan DeVoss

2022 was an interesting year for us. We moved locations in May and only operated a once a day farmers market while we started construction on the new location.

Until the time we left the old location the focus was on amplification of our bipoc staff. One bipoc queer staff member was trying to start a Puerto Rican cake and sweets company. We used our mailing list and location along with social media to host a popup for the cakes as well as use of the restaurant kitchen.

We also worked closely with Isaiah from Calibird Sanctuary to promote their garden through offering their micro greens on products as well as events and progress of their business and farm in Bayview.

During construction we focused on creating the least amount of waste and reusing as much as we could. We also paid contracted workers fair wages.

Also as a bread company we support regenerative farming and work with a miller that supports small farmers of color when possible. One goal this year is to make an attempt to find out more information on indigenous lands where the grains are grown and incorporate the history into our education through the farmers market and our shop.
